An iRobot Roomba robot vacuum cleaner consists of several parts. These parts you clean regularly to maintain good cleaning results. However, you cannot avoid replacing the Roomba parts regularly. For example, a worn side brush can cause scratches and a worn filter causes increased dust emissions.

Because there are so many different Roomba parts, I decided to list them all. I also tell you why these parts need to be replaced, how often and how you do this.

Why Replace Roomba Parts?

Let me start by asking why you need to replace Roomba parts every now and then. An iRobot robot vacuum cleaner is known for its good cleaning performance. When parts are worn out, Roomba's cleaning performance may deteriorate.

But that's not all. Also, a worn part can result in scratches on sensitive floors. The most important reasons for timely replacement of Roomba parts:

Which Roomba parts are there?

Replacing Roomba Brushes

An iRobot Roomba robot vacuum cleaner is equipped with several brushes. For example, there are two large rubber floor brushes at the bottom and you will discover a side brush at the front. This side brush sweeps the dirt from edges and corners to the center, so that the Roomba can vacuum it properly.

Replacing the floor brushes is super easy. Follow the step-by-step plan below:

1. Click the cover on the side of the Roomba brushes
2. Remove both floor brushes from the floor brush cassette
3. Insert the new floor brushes into the robot vacuum cleaner (pay attention to the shape of the ends)
4. Close the cover again

Roomba Side Brushes Replacement

Replacing a side brush is super easy. You do need a screwdriver for this. Then follow the steps below:

1. Loosen the screw at the side brush
2. Gently click the side brush off the Roomba
3. Snap the new side brush onto the Roomba
4. Screw it back on

When tightening, hold the side brush so that it does not turn when tightening the screw.

Roomba battery replacement

When a Roomba no longer charges, the battery may need to be replaced. In many cases, a Roomba will indicate this with a red light. Fortunately, replacing a Roomba battery is easy and you can do it yourself (it does not require any technical knowledge). You can follow the steps below for this:

1. Remove the bottom cover of the iRobot Roomba robot vacuum cleaner
2. Carefully peel off the bottom of the Roomba
3. Snap the battery out of Roomba and replace it with a new one

After replacing the battery, you will most likely need to reset the Roomba to reactivate it.

Replacing Roomba Filters

Every iRobot Roomba robot vacuum cleaner is equipped with a (HEPA) filter. This filters dust particles from the air, so that the air used by the vacuum cleaner is clean. The Roomba filter is not washable, so you will have to replace it regularly.

The filter is located behind the dust container. To replace the filter, you can follow the steps below:

1. Remove the dust container from the Roomba robotic vacuum cleaner
2. Click the filter out of the side of the dust container
3. Place the new filter in the dust container in the same way
4. Click the dust container back into the iRobot Roomba

I recommend that you regularly check the filter when emptying the dust container. If you replace it too little, this can have a negative impact on dust emissions. You can sometimes also gently wipe it with a small brush.

Roomba front wheel (castor) replacement

Finally, the Roomba front wheel can also be replaced. The front wheel, also known as the caster wheel, can get stuck at some point. If so, the wheel can scratch wooden floors. To prevent this, it is important to replace it regularly. Roomba recommends doing this every 6-12 months.

The Roomba castor wheel can be gently clicked off the Roomba, without the need for tools. Tip: check carefully for dirt before you click the new swivel wheel back into the robot vacuum cleaner.

How often to replace Roomba parts?

As I mentioned earlier in my article, how often you need to replace it depends on the Roomba part. For example, you have to replace the filter faster and more often than the front wheel of a Roomba.

The above replacement frequency is a guideline. It is of course possible that a part needs to be replaced sooner. Roomba may give error codes or components may fail unexpectedly.
