overpriced

This is a tough one to rate. The restaurant is downtown, street parking but plenty of it. Staff was friendly, full bar. The food itself tastes really good, the soup was very well seasoned and spiced, and the tikka masala had a great rich flavor. Heat level was also on point. So why not a 5/5? The biggest sin is the rice. Rice is not included with your entree, you have to order and pay for it in addition. I've eaten at so many Indian restaurants, this is maybe one of two out of the 50+ I've ever been to that does not include rice with the entree. Now this might not be the biggest deal, except you're also paying $25+ for that entree, which is an average size and riceless. The appetizer sizes aren't very big either, for the high prices. Naan was also just average. Long story short, the taste and flavor are really great, but the price point and meal setup are whackadoodle. I would hesitate to return, but if you MUST have Indian food while in town, and have a fat wallet, it isn't a bad choice.

Good culinary experience

I took my class here as we had studied the culture of Ancient India. Hector and other staff members treated us all so well. The children all tried different food tastes, they enjoyed the culinary experience and social time. Thank you Hector!

Way to expensive not good value!

As much as I enjoy good Indian food having experienced it abroad in its native country I was very disappointed. The flavor of my butter chicken was good, but the chicken was very tough and hard to even cut with a knife. I ordered the Keema Naan and it was simply not edible, just a soggy mess! Naan bread is meant to be stone fired on the outside and crispy on the outside this was not the case. The basmati rice was mushy and tasteless, I can make much better at home. I purchased two lunch dishes with incredibly small portions and it was $58.47! I will likely not return due to the extremely high pricing for what is received.

Not so great Sat Dinner

PROS: Beautiful setting - lovely bar. ...CONS: Tables way too close together. Food- meh! Samosas were huge and very spicy. Ordered large Tandoori Chicken _ VERY dry, mostly dry breast. Hardly a full chicken as described - bowl was filled out with sour onion slices insufficiently grilled. VERY disappointing - returned home and prepared a proper Tandoori chicken !! All A la Carte. Ric and Naan did not come with chicken...COST Tandoori Chicken 29.99. Reasonable if in fac, a n entire chicken had been served. Rice 1.98 Naan 4,99 4 samosas 8,99-- Total $49,81 ..SUMMARY - Apparently a popular drinking spot - most tables had a bottle of wine and co*cktails. Its for show.

FAR TOO EXPENSIVE

The food is good but way overpriced. We travel a lot and eat out in many places. This has been by far the most expensive place with this quality food so far. You get a very small bowl of veggies which is not enough even for one person. We went there as the place was recommended to us by a random local but left disappointed. Will we dine there again? Definitely not.

If you actually like Indian food, don't go here.

I have been here twice and it is the worst "Indian" food I have ever had. First of all, it is extremely expensive. Secondly, I have never had to add hot sauce to Indian food in my life!The first time my wife and I went, we ordered the buffet as some of the best buffets we have ever had have been from Indian restaurants. The food was so bland my wife and I couldn't believe it. We told out server and he apologized and told us that it is because 40 percent of Prescott's population was 60 or older and they had to cater to the clientele. He then suggested that next time we come that we should just order off the menu. A couple months later, we did. We told them what spice level we would like. When the food came out, it had more heat than anything on the buffet (which is good) but that wasn't even the problem. Sure, they were still being super conservative on what we told them so it wasn't actually spicy but there was still no flavor other than the little bit of heat they had added. It was like we stumbled into an Indian restaurant that had forgotten what spices and seasoning actually were! On top of that, the chicken that we ordered was extremely dry and barely edible. I had written a review to this restaurant when the events actually happened but was wandering the internet, looking for a different place down in Scottsdale (where we actually did recently get good food) and I saw this restaurant pop up and I couldn't believe that this place actually had some high ratings so I felt it necessary to leave my input on this other forum.I so hope one day we get an actual Indian restaurant in the Prescott area.

Yum

This is my third visit and it doesn’t disappoint. While the prices are a bit high, the food is excellent and ultimately worth it. I asked for a side of their spice sauce because I like it hot, while my wife likes it mild. Their spice sauce is the best I have ever had. Very accommodating and attentive staff. Will definitely return in the future.

If you have $$$$$$ to burn

If you can afford to use $100 bills as toilet paper and live off eating crumbs, then this is the joint for you. This place is waaaay overpriced and gives portions that couldn’t even satisfy a toddler. Rip off city

Holy moly $$$$$

Holy moly this place is expensive and it’s ALL ala carte. I got five bite size pieces of chicken in my $22 tikka misala and rice does not come with it (that’s an extra charge $$$$). It tastes ok but it’s not affordable and won’t fill your belly.

Excellent Indian cuisine — worth a trip to Prescott

Returned to Taj Mahal after a long absence. Still excellent Indian cuisine, especially chicken masala and lamb vindaloo with peas pulao and garlic naan.

Indian Delight

My wife has fallen in love with naan bread. So of course we ordered garlic naan bread which is very tasty. In addition we ordered meat samosa for an appetizer and lamb vindaloo with rice for the main course. Everything was well prepared and fresh. If you enjoy Indian food, this is a great place to go. Service and pricing were reasonable. We went on a Saturday so we ordered off the main menu.

So little for so much…

The food was good. The service was good. The prices were outrageous for the portion sizes. The ambience was shattered by the blaring television playing constant Bollywood music. We ate lunch and there was only one other group in the place—on a holiday—in a tourist city. Folks may like this place, but its prices mark it as a trap. I’ve had better Indian food at a much more reasonable price point. We won’t likely return, and we can’t recommend this restaurant. My apologies to my friends and neighbors who love it.

Great Food/Affordable Price

Even though they no longer have a buffet, the Taj Mahal has great lunch special options. If you like the variety of a buffet, this is a great options. Each lunch special comes with two entrees, rice and two sides. Great meal. Was too much for one person to eat..but made great left overs

Overpriced Under Portioned

Food was okay but it is all ala carte and in small serving sizes for dinner. Butter lamb $21 (MAYBE 5 oz of lamb) much more sauce than lamb. Chai tea $5 each. Naan an 8 in piece cut into 4 pieces $5. Approx 1.5 cups of rice for topping with butter lamb $5. Most Indian places rice and naan are included and the price of the lamb is about $5 less. Everything on the menu was $21 even half a Tandori chicken. Really!!! A whole chicken retail is $5!!!! Food taste pretty good no complaints, value for the dollar overpriced under portioned. Would give a higher rating if at least the rice and naan were included or lamb portions were larger.
