This Ploughman’s Lunch Crescent Roll Ring takes the traditional ploughman’s lunch and gives it a twist, combining ham, English cheese, and chutney in a delicious crescent roll ring.

Ploughman’s Lunch Crescent Roll Ring

As I’ve mentioned before, I watch far too much British television for my own good. This often makes me hungry for things that might not occur to me otherwise. Ploughman’s lunch is one of those things.

What, exactly, is a ploughman’s lunch?

It’s a traditional English lunch that typically consists of hunks of bread and pieces of good English cheese. A ploughman’s lunch may also include ham, a bit of salad greens, and maybe an apple.

It’s served with chutney or “pickle,” and if youthink that a pickle is a marinated cucumber, remove your American thinking cap and put on your English thinking cap. For the English, pickle is actually the word for a pickle relish condiment.

All of this is served cold on a platter, perhaps in your favorite public house.

Of course, I’m recklessly breaking tradition to take these elements and serve them hot. But, considering how tasty it is, I’m willing to walk on the wild side.

To make this ploughman’s lunch crescent roll ring, I’m combining chutney, cheese, and Hillshire Farmbrown sugar and smoked ham lunch meat.

Hillshire Farm lunch meat is slow-roasted for hours, making it tender and juicy; plus, the package is double-sealed for freshness. A hearty meal like this with Hillshire Farm ham helps me and my family stayed fueled during back-to-school time.

I picked up my Hillshire Farm lunch meatat my local Safeway store.

While I was there, I also grabbed some Ball Park®beef hot dogs and Jimmy Deanfully cooked sausage. Ball Park hot dogs arealways a crowd favorite and Jimmy Dean fully cooked sausage is delicious and so easy to make.

Look for these products at Safeway in thecold case aisle with meats and cheeses.

I love how Ball Parkhot dogs are always a crowd-pleaser, perfect for serving at cookouts at home or on-the-go. Plus, Jimmy Deanfully cooked sausage is deliciously seasoned and so easy to prepare for breakfast.

I took advantage of theTyson Fuel for School offer to discover my “Back to School Fuel Style” and save $5 by uploading my receipt. (This offer is valid 8/15/2016 – 9/10/2016.)

Having a great assortment ofTyson products at home makes it easy to come up with meal plans for the family, so seek them out to makeyour life easier.

Tips for Making a Ploughman’s Lunch Crescent Roll Ring

  • A pizza pan works great for bakingthis ring. Line it with foil or parchment paper for easy cleanup. Or, if you don’t have a pizza pan handy, use a large baking sheet instead.
  • Look forfruit chutney inone of three places at your grocery store: the international foods section, the jam & jelly aisle, orthe condiment aisle.
  • There are many great English cheeses, such as cheddar, Red Leicester, and Double Gloucester. Avoid Stilton; it tastes like bleu cheese and is not a great match for this recipe. A good quality American cheddar works fine, too.
