The Kansas City football team won the Super Bowl yet again Sunday night, topping San Francisco 25-22 in overtime.

Mecole Hardman Jr. scored the game-winning touchdown with just seconds left on the clock. In postgame interviews, he said he blacked out and didn’t even realize at first that they’d just won the Super Bowl.
After the final score, people set off fireworks all over Lawrence and fans swarmed the streets of downtown.
Ekow Boye-Doe, a 2018 graduate of Lawrence High School, is in his rookie season as a cornerback for Kansas City. He is the son of Kofi and Valentina Boye-Doe.
Kansas City has played in four of the last five Super Bowls, winning in 2020, 2023 and 2024.The last team to win back-to-back Super Bowls was New England in 2004 and 2005.
Sunday’s game was a rematch of the 2020 Super Bowl. In that game, Kansas City beat San Francisco 31-20.
KC quarterback Patrick Mahomes, 28, won Super Bowl LVIII MVP —the third time he’s won the title in his career. This season was his sixth as a starter.
Amid the chaos downtown, Lawrence police posted to social media that “We had the usual antics – folks attempting to climb light poles and some trying to get in the trees as well, but folks complied with our requests to keep their feet on the ground. Thank you.” There were no arrests directly related to the street party, according to LPD.
