For the longest time, overnight oats were one of those breakfasts that I kept meaning to try.

I'd see a tasty looking recipe and think, "Hey, I should make that!" But, I never did ... until a visit from my sister a few months ago.

While she was here, we got to talking about breakfast. I'm not the biggest breakfast fan, so I tend to stick to simple, tried and true recipes. Perhaps inspired by one too many egg sandwiches (my fave), she mentioned how much she loved overnight oats.

After she left, I finally made my first batch of Easy Overnight Oats in a jar, and I've been eating this simple breakfast recipe ever since!

I'm not sure what took me so long! These Easy Overnight Oats in a jar are so delicious and so easy to make.

I love mixing up multiple jars at a time and then not having to worry about making breakfast for a few days. That is my kind of breakfast!

This Easy Overnight Oats recipe only takes a few simple ingredients to make, and I bet you have everything (oats, milk, and a couple add-ins) in your pantry and refrigerator.

Of course, when a recipe is this simple, you need to use the best ingredients. Since extraordinary flavor comes from extraordinary cows, I used Promised Land Dairy Milk.

Here's a little known fact: I may be a city girl now, but I come from a long line of dairy farmers. My mom grew up on a farm, and I have lots of great memories of feeding baby calves and helping out on my cousin's farm while growing up.

Did you know that those ubiquitous black and white, spotted Holstein cows produce 90% of the milk we drink in the United States? Promised Land Dairy, on the other hand, use Jersey Cows from the British Isle of Jersey (not the state of New Jersey).

Less than 10% of the milk we drink here in the US comes from Jersey cows, like the ones at Promised Land Dairy. Not only are the Jerseys themselves extraordinary, but so is the milk that they produce.

Milk from Jersey cows is richer, creamier, and naturally higher in protein and calcium than ordinary milk.

To produce its natural milk, Promised Land treats their precious Jersey cows to lots of TLC, but never artificial hormones. I love that!

Jersey cows make Promised Land Milk far from ordinary, and you can make your day far from ordinary by using Promised Land Milk in this Easy Overnight Oats recipe!

How to Make Easy Overnight Oats in a Jar

You are going to love this recipe!

To start, you'll want to grab a container with a lid. I like to use a pint size mason jar, but any kind of storage container, empty jar, or even a bowl with a little plastic wrap will work. I'm using cute jam jars in my pics, but the toppings won't fit if you are planning to take these oats on the road with you.

My basic Easy Overnight Oats in a jar recipe is simply a combination of old-fashioned oats, milk (I usually use full fat or 2%), and a little sweetener (I prefer maple syrup). I don't like my oats too sweet, so feel free to add more sweetener depending on your preference. I also add a dash of cinnamon, as well as a tiny pinch of salt to enhance the flavors .

This mixture get refrigerated overnight, and in that time, the oats soften up and become deliciously creamy ... yum!

I like to add my toppings in the morning to keep them super fresh, but if you know you'll be in a rush, add them at night along with the other ingredients.

My go to Overnight Oats topping is blueberries, which are full of antioxidants and other good-for-you stuff. I also find that blueberries stay fresh a lot longer than other berries, which is a major plus.

This simple recipe is just the start though, because you can get totally creative with these Easy Overnight Oats in a jar!

I'm also sharing a recipe for Almond Joy Overnight Oats, inspired by my favorite candy bar, and a Chocolate Covered Raspberry recipe that's made with chocolate milk.

I can't wait to hear which version is your favorite!
