Buffalo Chicken Dip Football Appetizer - Oh Sweet Basil (1)

It’s football season and college football is blaring on TV screens all around the country. Whether or not you’re a fan of college football you are certainly a fan of football appetizers. Especially when there’s bread and Tillamook Cheese involved, am I right? This Buffalo Chicken Dip Football Appetizer has everything you want in football-watching food plus there are veggies so technically you’re getting in some vitamins too.

Right?

Kind of?

Ok, not really, I mean, you are but I’m pretty sure all of that bread, cheese and cream cheese cancel out any chance of this being healthy.

But it’s worth it!!!

As you know, we are partnered with Tillamook so we’ve been creating and sharing recipes like crazy on our Instagram Channel, which is so fun, but we’ve had such a huge request to put the recipes on our blog so that they can be pinned to Pinterest and pulled up any time, so we just had to go for it.

We’ve had a few recipes to share already like our Spicy Queso Pasta Primavera and Philly Cheese Steak Bread, but this Buffalo Chicken Dip Football Appetizer is Cade’s absolute favorite so we had to get it up here ASAP!

How to Make a Football Appetizer with Crescent Rolls

You know us, we don’t really do the cute and fun, artistic and complicated recipes on this food blog. Instead we stick to darn good flavors over anything else, so let me tell you how to make a football appetizer with crescent rolls.

Start out by rolling out one package of crescent roll dough on your silpat.

Make sure the dough comes straight out of the fridge because it’s easier to work with when it’s cold.

Pinch all of the seams together and then mold the dip, using your hands on top of the sheet of dough.

Cover with another sheet of dough that has been pinched together.

Press around the football and trim off excess dough.

Use leftover strips to make the threads on top.

Buffalo Chicken Dip in the Oven

The original way to make buffalo chicken dip is to do so in the oven, baking the mixture together until hot and bubbly, however you do have other options.

What Cheese for Buffalo Chicken Dip?

Here’s a big question for buffalo chicken dip football appetizer. What cheese do you use in buffalo dip?

Good question!

That’s actually up to you, but we prefer to use Tillamook Sharp or Extra Sharp Cheddar. Tillamook uses

the highest quality milk fromdairy cows not treated with artificial growth hormones and naturally ages their cheese to

absolute perfection.

Plus! Their shreds are cut into larger pieces specifically to deliver a better melt for baked dishes.

You could also throw in whatever other kinds of cheeses you like in addition to the cheddar, but that’s our favorite.

Why is My Buffalo Chicken Dip Runny?

Generally, buffalo chicken dip is runny because you didn’t add enough chicken and used too much of the buffalo sauce and/or ranch.

A low fat cream cheese will also make the dip a little runnier.

Why is My Buffalo Chicken Dip Greasy?

Buffalo chicken dip can often end up greasy and separated. Have you ever noticed that? It doesn’t look appetizing and it doesn’t hold up well at a party. But don’t fret, we can totally help.

  1. Use a high-quality cheese like, Tillamook. Tillamook Farmstyle Cut Shredded Cheese is cut into thick, generous shreds straight from their award-winning blocks of Cheddar and is naturally aged (no fillers!) so the cheese will melt down properly.
  2. Only use softened cream cheese. If you use cold cream cheese it will not completely combine with the other ingredients. It’s essential that you take the cream cheese out of the fridge to come closer to room temperature so that it will combine with all of the ingredients.
  3. Bake the dip at a temperature like 350-375 for 25-30 minutes versus too low a temperature or too high as it will cause the cheese to not melt and meld with the other ingredients.

Can You Leave Buffalo Chicken Dip Out Overnight?

You cannot leave buffalo chicken dip out overnight as it has meat and dairy in the recipe that can go bad as it sits out on the counter.

  • How Long Does Buffalo Chicken Dip Last?

Alright, so how long does buffalo chicken dip last on the counter? Well, that’s a tricky question because it really shouldn’t be sitting out for more than two hours, but then again, would buffalo chicken dip even be left at that point?

I think not.

  • How to Store Buffalo Chicken Dip

If you aren’t finished with the buffalo chicken dip football appetizer, just place the leftovers in a sealed container in the fridge as this will keep the air and moisture out.

  • Can you Freeze Buffalo Chicken Dip

Technically you can freeze buffalo chicken dip; however, I’ve noticed that the dairy can separate from the cheese and chicken as it comes back to temperature upon reheating.

Can You Make Buffalo Chicken Dip Ahead of Time?

I can still smell that buffalo sauce from making it. It keeps making me think about eating it, which is why I’m answering all of these questions while they are on my mind.

You can make buffalo chicken dip up to 2 days ahead of time, though like always, it’s best if you make it the day of.
